As part of the Humphrey Fellowship’s commitment to supporting diverse candidates, the program provides language training for those requiring additional English language support. These crucial trainings help ease participants’ transition into U.S. academic and professional settings and lay the foundation for Fellows to be successful during their Humphrey Fellowship.
Long-Term English Program
Humphrey Fellows attend the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for sixteen weeks of intensive English training. They study all language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) as well as lessons in research, grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary development, and cross-cultural training.
Pre-Academic English Program
Humphrey Fellows attend the University of Kansas for eight weeks and participate in structured and informal learning activities that enhance Fellows’ English skills and cross-cultural awareness.
