What types of projects are eligible under the Alumni Impact Award?
Any project with demonstrable impact on a broader community of professionals or citizens in the applicant's home country or region, such as a workshop, roundtable, conference, publications, and collaborative research with a US professional.

Does my Alumni Impact Award project have to be with the original U.S. university, host institution or professionals with whom I was affiliated during my Humphrey Fellowship?
Sustained interaction with original U.S. hosts is encouraged, but not required. Short-term involvement of U.S. professional/academic contacts in a proposed activity should provide a good, logical fit with the activity's objectives and should demonstrate a clear potential for long-term collaboration.

If my project involves international travel, must the travel be by U.S. carrier?
Since substantial funding is provided by the U.S. Department of State with Congressionally appropriated funds, the Fly America Act will apply. However, if transportation arrangements are cost-shared by the applicant, they are not subject to the provisions of the Fly America Act.

Can my proposal involve institutions in countries outside my home country and the United States where I have professional contacts?
Not for Alumni Impact Award funding. Alumni Impact Awards are for the dissemination in the home country or region of knowledge and skills acquired during the Humphrey experience in the United States.

Do I have to wait three years before I can apply for an Alumni Impact Award?
No. While the Humphrey Alumni Professional Development Grant program does require a three-year waiting period after the Fellowship year in the United States, there is no three-year waiting period requirement for the Alumni Impact Award Program.

I am currently on my Humphrey Fellowship and am still in the United States. Am I eligible?
Yes, you are eligible to apply while still on your Humphrey program, so long as your proposed activity will take place after you return to your home country. You would not be eligible if your stay in the United States extends into that period.

Can Humphrey alumni who are independent consultants, retirees or applying for activities outside their core employment apply to the Alumni Impact Award Program?
Yes, as long as the project proposed will have a demonstrated impact on the target group or project through some broader network: a community group, NGO, professional association, etc.

What if I have changes to my application after the application has been delivered to IIE?
IIE staff cannot guarantee the implementation of requested changes or additions to the application materials following their submission. Please be sure that your application materials are accurate and complete before you submit them. If additional letters are faxed to IIE before the deadline, they must be very clearly marked in terms of what application they relate to.

Can I apply for both a Humphrey Alumni Professional Development Grant and an Alumni Impact Award?
Yes, but you will not be allowed to accept both awards during the same period. You need to keep in mind that your Alumni Impact Award project must be completed within a 12-month period following the award notification. If you apply for a Professional Development Grant during these 12 months, your proposed Professional Development Grant travel period cannot occur while you are implementing your Impact Award activity.

What are the guidelines as to what funding may be used for?
There are no specific guidelines; most requests for funding will be considered, as long as the expenditures are justified. Please see the budget page of the program application for the items that will not be funded under the program, including institutional overhead or indirect costs, first-class travel or accommodations, etc.
